About the Founder
Shenise Gray | Founder & CEO

Love: A strong affection for another arising out of kinship or personal ties.

Growing up, I discovered early on the deep love and passion I had for caregiving. As the third of five children, born in Charlottesville, Virginia, and raised in Prospect, a poverty-stricken neighborhood, I learned that genuine love and care were at the root of my happiness. My hardworking, nurturing mother, who raised us as a single parent while working long hours, leaned on me to help manage the household. From a young age, I was entrusted with ensuring chores were completed and that my siblings were supervised, cared for, and fed. These responsibilities helped shape who I am today and laid the foundation for my calling in caregiving.
At 18, I graduated from high school with an advanced diploma, but my next chapter was not college; it was motherhood. Becoming a young mother taught me resilience, showed me that patience is a virtue, and revealed that love and genuine care will always outweigh wealth or material possessions. Through it all, I learned that with God and faith, there are no limits to what I can achieve.
I went on to work in various roles, including as a hostess, caterer, and at the University of Virginia, but none were as fulfilling as the path I was ultimately called to. In 2018, I pursued that calling by becoming a certified CNA, stepping fully into a life of service and care for others.
In 2020, in the midst of the pandemic, with nothing more than a vision from God and unwavering faith, I founded Peace of Mind Helpers, LLC.

“I have known Shenise for about 7 years now, as she, and her team, have been the primary caregivers for several of our patients. I have been very impressed with Shenise and her team, for their consistent professionalism, respect, honesty, loyalty, and genuine caring/love of each client over the years! I truly enjoy working with Shenise, and always know that her clients will be clean/bathed, well nourished, hydrated, and lovingly nurtured consistently, and we can count on her to follow through with specific patient care instructions by the MD when needed. I have always told Shenise that she would be the first person I would call if myself, a family member, or a family friend needed professional caregiving at home!”

I have known Shenise and her team for two years, and I have personally worked beside them with their clients in complex care situations.
They are all amazing with the elderly with their patience, active listening skills, and ability to work with diverse personalities and backgrounds.
It is obvious the years of experience each team member has when you see them ambulate, transfer, or shower a client. I have observed them to be all genuine, approachable, and warm with their interactions. They are cognizant that people depend on them to be there, and always have their client's safety as their number one priority.
But, I would like to say more about their leader, Shenise! Shenise consistently shows kindness with her down to earth and upbeat personality; no wonder the team all loves working with her. Not only is Shenise smart and conscientious, but she takes great pride in improving the conditions of her clients, and is always there to jump in and help out her team as needed. She doesn't hesitate to call me when she has a question or concern about a client - clearly knows her limits - and knows when to ask for help. Shenise always takes the time to listen and understand when i was giving her suggestions or direction, and i never had to worry about her following through with tasks, or with changes of care when needed.
For Shenise, her work is really a calling, not just a job. She leads with her BIG heart and it's obvious to anyone who is lucky enough to work with her or know her. It is my pleasure to strongly recommend Shenise and her wonderful team.

I write to enthusiastically and wholeheartedly recommend Ms. Shenise Gray and her team of dedicated caregivers. Shenise jumped in to help our family by taking care of my father after his discharge from the hospital for in-home care at The Colonnades. She was highly recommended to me by Dr. Christina Tieu, and I quickly learned why. Shenise is caring, compassionate, extremely medically knowledgeable, responsive and dependable, and she is blessed with incredible common sense and stellar judgment.

There are so many great things to say about Shenise and Peace of Mind Helpers. During one of the most overwhelming and emotional moments of my life, Shenise has been instrumental in helping me navigate my mom’s health challenges with clarity and confidence. As an only child with no family nearby, I was lost. Shenise became that family and helped me find my way through this. From understanding my mom’s sudden weakness and high blood sugar to helping me think through next steps and care options, Shenise has been calm, knowledgeable, and incredibly compassionate. She doesn’t just provide information, she provides reassurance. She helped me slow down, ask the right questions, and feel empowered instead of panicked.

What sets Shenise apart is that she genuinely cares. She approaches situations with both professionalism and heart. When you’re dealing with a parent’s health, you don’t just need answers you need someone who understands the emotional weight of it. Shenise shows up with both expertise and empathy.
Peace of Mind Helpers truly lives up to its name. I am so grateful for her guidance and support during a time when I needed it most.
I now have peace of mind. Thank you Shenise!

Peace of Mind Helpers came highly recommended and Shenise had a lengthy phone call with me before I chose them to make sure that all of my questions were answered and that she understood the needs of my husband. He was challenging to care for, at home, on hospice, but I had confidence in her staff and Shenise advocated for what George needed with Hospice to be sure that he could be as comfortable as possible. The helpers were not afraid to interact with him, care for him and comfort him as though he was a loved member of their own family. They were very respectful of his dignity, autonomy and end of life needs. I highly recommend them.

A good friend of mine received care from Peace of Mind Helpers over several years. He had complicated medical conditions and eventually
dementia. He was a survivor of a very hard childhood including World War II in Europe. The caregivers were exceptional. They were all kind, professional, and skillful. They looked for creative ways to keep my riend engaged and happy. They also gave me good suggestions on how to interact with him. It was so comforting knowing that he was in such good hands. They truly connected with him and showed great lovingkindness. I would highly recommend them.
